The Department of Biomedical Engineering is one of the youngest and most dynamic departments at Yıldız Technical University, a long-established university founded in 1911. Established in 2014 within the Faculty of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at our university’s Davutpaşa campus, our department conducts its instruction entirely in English.
Biomedical engineering is a field that brings together the disciplines of medicine and engineering, providing technological and scientific solutions in the healthcare sector with the aim of improving the quality of life for communities. As an interdisciplinary department that brings together not only the fields of medicine and biology but also various engineering disciplines such as electronics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and genetics, graduates of the Department of Biomedical Engineering play active roles in R&D / R&D units, as well as in departments providing scientific and technological services.
Our students are required to complete two main internships—one in a hospital and one in the industry—during their academic careers. In addition, as the Department Chair, we have incorporated the “Professional Training in Industry” model—for which we began preparatory work in 2022 and which will be implemented in 2023—into our program. Through the “Work-Based Professional Education” program—also known as CO-OP (Cooperative Education)—our students will be able to spend their final semester (8th semester) working as engineering interns at companies specializing in their field. Through the CO-OP program, our students will gain industry experience even before they graduate.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers a dual major program (ÇAP) and a minor program, providing our students with the opportunity to graduate from a second program at our university (ÇAP) or take courses as part of a minor. Additionally, through the ERASMUS program, our students gain the experience of studying for a semester or a year at a university in another country.
Our department, which boasts a young and dynamic faculty, offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Biotechnology, Biomedical Electronics, Biomanufacturing, Biomechanics, Modeling of Physiological Systems, Biomaterials, Biosensors, Tissue Engineering, Drug Delivery Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Implant Design and Manufacturing, 3D Printing in Biotechnology, Health Physics, and Imaging Devices.
Our department aims to educate engineers who embrace lifelong learning, possess analytical and synthetic skills, are creative, entrepreneurial, and inquisitive, have internalized ethical values, are inclined toward teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration, self-confident, and open to technological advancements—who are beneficial to their country and humanity.
